USE OF COMPUTER-BASED TESTS (CBT) FOR LARGE CLASSES IN THE UNIVERSITY
I wish to express special appreciations to all the staff who diligently implemented the Computer-Based Tests (CBT) in their various courses, which helped the University to easily graduate a good number of our final year students by reducing the worrisome perennial problems of missing results, late submission of results and missing scripts. These untoward issues had been hindering service delivery in the University.
Consequently, there is need to sustain and improve on this worthwhile development so that our students will continue to have seamless and exhilarating academic experiences in this University. As a result, I direct that with effect from the 2017/1018 academic session:
i. All courses having a student population of two hundred and fifty (250) and above will have their examinations conducted under the auspices of the Computer-Based Tests (CBT) arrangement. However, other courses having a student population of two hundred (200) and above, but not up to two hundred and fifty (250), are encouraged to employ the Computer-Based Tests (CBT) approach as well (but this is optional for this category).
ii. The Continuous Assessment (CA) tests in all courses whose student population is two hundred and fifty (250) and above will henceforth be exclusively by Computer-Based Tests (CBT) arrangement.
iii. Due to the disciplinary variations and essentialities of the backgrounds of the students who mostly constitute the population of two hundred and fifty (250) and above as in (i), as a result of the inter-faculty nature of these courses, all concerned are to minimize the import and impact of Demonstrations, Field Trips, Laboratory Works, etc on the outcome of students’ performance in such courses. All assessments of these activities for purposes of examination, where necessary, should come under the gamut of questions in the Computer-Based Tests (CBT) Continuous Assessment (CA) platform.
iv. For the student evaluations in (i) and (ii) above, all the concerned officials are to set sufficient numbers of questions which are expected to be of needed diversity and richness to fully cover the required course contents.
v. The relevant Deans, Directors, Heads of Department, and Coordinators should liaise with the Director of ICT and Innovation for proper coordination, scheduling, and other aspects of managing these examinations.
